Some days feel like a sprint you didn’t sign up for.
Work runs long. Traffic hits. One kid needs dinner, the other needs a diaper change, and suddenly the night feels like survival mode instead of family time.
That’s exactly why I started doing what I call the “10-minute dad reset.”
And honestly… it’s changed everything.
What Is the 10-Minute Reset?
Before I check my phone.
Before I turn on the TV.
Before I even sit down on the couch…
I get on the floor.
That’s it.
For 10 minutes, I give my kids 100% attention:
- No distractions
- No multitasking
- No “just a second”
Just presence.
Why It Works
Kids don’t need hours.
They need moments that feel like everything.
Those 10 minutes:
- Fill their attention tank
- Reduce whining later
- Make bedtime smoother
- And honestly… reset me too
What It Looks Like in Real Life
Some nights it’s:
- Building random Lego towers with Kayden
- Holding Madison while she stares at me like I’m her whole world
- Wrestling on the carpet until someone cries (usually me)
It’s not structured. It’s not perfect.
It’s just intentional.
The Unexpected Benefit
Here’s what I didn’t expect:
After those 10 minutes… the whole night feels easier.
Less chaos. More connection.
And way fewer “Dad watch this!!” interruptions later.
Try It Tonight
Don’t overthink it.
Just:
- Walk in the door
- Drop everything
- Get on the floor
10 minutes.
That’s it.
Because someday, they won’t ask you to play anymore.
