Before my toddler Kayden was born, I thought I knew what being a dad meant. Spoiler: I didn’t.
Here are the 5 lessons I learned the hard (and hilarious) way:
- Sleep is a myth. You think you’ll just be tired for a few weeks. No. Sleep deprivation is a lifestyle. Coffee isn’t optional; it’s a survival tool. And if you have more than one kid…strap in.
- Toddlers are tiny negotiators. Kayden could probably convince a car dealer to throw in a free Tesla with his “just one more” face.
- You’ll care about things you never imagined. I now have strong opinions about sippy cups, diaper brands, and how to slice pizza up properly.
- You’ll mess up — a lot. And it’s okay. Kids don’t need perfect dads; they need present dads. And hopefully this blog helps show you how you are not in it alone.
- Love grows in unexpected ways. I thought I knew love when I married Amanda. Then I saw her as a mom, and my heart grew a whole new room.
