Visitors, Boundaries, and the Magic Phrase: “Another Day Works Better”

temp visitors boundaries

We love our people. We also love not hosting a party while learning a new human. Here’s how we set boundaries kindly and kept our energy for the kids. We’re still very much a work‑in‑progress on sleep—especially with a spirited 3‑year‑old—so think of these as friendly

Our House Rules (we texted these)
• Quick visits only (20–30 minutes).
• Wash hands on arrival; please skip if you’re under the weather.
• We may reschedule day‑of—another day works better.
• We love food drop‑offs (porch drop = gold medal).
Scripts You Can Steal
• When someone wants to hold baby and you need a break: “We’re keeping her on us
today—it helps her settle. Can we take a picture together instead?”
• When someone stays too long: “This has been perfect. We’re about to do
nap/feeding, so we’ll walk you out.”
• When you need to reschedule: “Another day works better for us. Thank you for
understanding—we can’t wait to see you soon.”
